All That Is Interesting: Colombia's Stunning River Of Five Colors

all-thats-interesting:

Beautiful Colombian River Image

Known by many as “the river that ran away from paradise” and the most beautiful river in the world, Colombia’s Caño Cristales or The River of Five Colors is a veritable biological wonder. For most of the year, the river remains nondescript: clear currents, greyish rocks, cool waters….

On this day in 1948 Gandhi was assassinated in New Delhi by a Hindu fanatic.
In a career spanning more than two decades, photographer Margaret Bourke-White fearlessly documented many facets of the human experience. Her astonishing portfolio ranged from trailblazing assignments in the Soviet Union in the late 1920s, to capturing the horrors of the Buchenwald concentration camp upon its liberation in 1945. And Bourke-White’s focus on humanitarian issues — showcased in these stunning images of Mohandas Gandhi in India — was equally renowned.
Pictured here in 1946, the leader sits next to a spinning wheel, a device used to make yarn or thread; the image came to symbolize Indian self sufficiency — and thus independence from British rule.

Round 2: The Most Racist Character

yoisthisracist:

Ok, so after you guys rightly (and ok, kind of obviously), pointed me towards 2 Broke Girls, I’m asking again, who is the most racist character or what was the most racist shit that happened on TV in the last couple weeks? For the sake of balance, maybe not an Asian character, and I probably need to lay off 2 Broke Girls.

PS. Do I need a question mark to activate the reply box?

http://stfuconservatives.net/post/16534979237 STFU Conservatives posted that, and it’s pretty bad. It’s some Disney show, and one of the young characters is a small boy from India. It’s beyond racist.

Birthday goodies! My boyfriend seriously knows me. Given that I am a total Space Junkie, especially anything Moon related…he bought me The Fountain, my number one movie of all time… (I had the DVD, lost it in a move)
Plus! Moon, my favorite movie of 2009, and in my top 10 list.
THEN! Another Earth. Hands down my favorite movie of 2011, the screen play should have been nominated. The film has quickly shot to 2nd place for me and the album is amazing.
He then tops it all off with a Nat Geo book I’ve wanted forever and had trouble finding. Sci-Fi watching party next week for my birthday for shizzy.
Sidenote: He told me he has another gift that is hidden in our house. I’ve been looking. I can’t find it. It’s probably right in front of my face.
